Yesterday we posted about the recent opening of Walter’s Cottage, an Irish Bar at 500 West 43rd Street (10th avenue between 42nd and 43rd Street). Hudson Yardies has since had a chance to speak with the owner Tony Ferber about this new Hell’s Kitchen establishment.
Walter’s Cottage is currently undergoing a soft-opening while they work on their menu and other finishing touches. The grand opening date is scheduled for December 11th (this could change, check their Facebook page for updates). While they are currently busy working out the kinks, this is not Mr. Ferber’s first venture. Following four years of service in the United States Marine Corps until 1999, Mr. Ferber has spent the last 16 years working in the bar business. His family also own’s Walter’s Bar in Chelsea on 8th avenue between 29th and 30th Street. His partner in Walter’s Cottage is Noel Foley who also owned Horsebox, a bar which still operates under the same name downtown in the East Village.
Asked about happy hour specials, Mr. Ferber confirmed a typical happy that runs until 7pm, offering $3 domestic $4 imports for beer and $4 well drinks. The plans for the food menu will be to focus on Irish fare. Bottled water will be available for sale for $1 and all proceeds from the bottled water will go to charity.
As we noted, Walters Cottage is the third bar to occupy this location in the last four years. It replaces ‘MacMenamin’s NYC Hell’s Kitchen’ which operated from 2011 until September 2015. Prior to MacMenamin’s, this location was known as The River.
With the recent demolition of the Speedway gas station up the block to be replaced by luxury condos, Walter’s Cottage will have a whole bunch of new neighbors and potential patrons in the near future.
