Sad news from over the weekend coming out of Hell’s Kitchen. I actually happened upon the scene on Friday around 4:30 p.m. while picking up my daughter from school.
Speaking with police on the scene, they reported that a young girl, later identified as 15-year-old Natalia Jimenez, and fallen six stories to her death after jumping between in buildings. The police also noted that she was with two friends at the time and they were jumping between the rooftops of at least three buildings before they were confronted by a concerned resident and turned to go back into a building, leaping once more between buildings when she plunged to the street. The buildings are a series of four and five-story brick buildings on Tenth Avenue between West 47th and 48th streets.
Speaking with a long-time resident of one of the buildings who only wanted to give his first name as Justin, having learned of the sad situation upon returning home from work, he said people would often go to the roof to party and he knew kids who also accessed the roof
Natalia was rushed to nearby Mount Sinai West hospital where she died.
Police also said that the incident will be referred to the Department of Buildings for review to ensure proper safety measures were followed by the landlord.
