Cranksgiving, the annual “food drive on two wheels,” will be returning to New York City for its 17th straight year.  Cranksgiving is a self-described “food drive, scavenger hunt, and bike ride” that supplies hundreds of needy families with groceries over Thanksgiving week.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 21.  Participants need only show up at Hudson Park with themselves, a bike and bike lock, and a grocery bag to carry food.  At the strike of 3 p.m., registered participants will receive a manifest and a starting cheer, then dash off on their routes to a variety of local grocery stores.  Registration is free, although participants pay for groceries themselves; the event page suggests that the average grocery bill runs about $10 to $15.  Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. on the day of the event; online registration is not available at this time.

So, mark your calendars and get ready to ride at the great Cranksgiving!
