A man started a small fire at M&T Bank’s ATM vestibule earlier today.  The man approached police when they arrived at the scene and immediately confessed to the act, then begged to be admitted to a hospital, DNAinfo reports.

“I did it. I set the fire…I want to go to the hospital to be admitted,” Allen Murdaugh reportedly said to police when they arrived. The bank is located at 830 Eighth Avenue, at the corner of 8th Avenue and 50th Street.

Murdaugh, 38, has five ongoing criminal cases in Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan for minor infractions, including drinking in public. Following his actions this morning, Murdaugh was taken to Riker’s Island, where he is being held without bail. Court records also order that he undergo psychiatric testing, DNAinfo found.

Murdaugh will appear in court on Dec. 8.

All damage from the incident has been repaired; the vestibule should now be safe and fully functional.
